Today, business leaders care most about cost, customers, and transformation, but fewer than one in four of them believe L&D have a significant role to play in each of these areas.

Today, Mind Tools for Business has published its 2023 Leadership report, ‘Turning pressures into opportunities’, which shows that L&D are being unintentionally siloed by their leaders and by themselves.

Business leaders blame L&D for “holding them back” because they believe that L&D lack the long-term vision and strategic influence necessary to support the business. The challenge, though, is that less than half of L&D leaders understand the strategic goals of the organization and even fewer are aligning their team’s activities with these goals.

For this report and in partnership with YouGov, 557 business leaders across 12 industries were asked about their perceptions of L&D in their organizations.

The report summarizes:

  • Business leaders’ priorities for 2023
  • What they expect from their L&D functions
  • What they consider to be their biggest challenges
  • How significantly they are affected by business-related environmental pressures.

The report shows how the internal and external forces that affect organizations are intrinsically linked to the goals business leaders care about. The report offers L&D practitioners a fresh perspective on how they can use this knowledge to their advantage to build stronger, more productive relationships with leaders.
